Biography

Photography has always been present. As a child growing up in
Houston, Texas a camera was always there to document those
occasionsthat mark the progressing seasons and advancing age:
holidays, birthdays, summer vacations.

I began exploring photography in 1987 after I moved to Alaska:
picking up a 35mm camera for the first time, reading copiously
on photography, and working to capture the Alaskan landscape.
I moved to black and white photography in 1991 on a three-year
relocation to Japan. While there, I joined the Tokyo Photo
Workshops, meeting many fine photographers, some who have
become mentors and friends. It was in Japan that my artistic
and photography sensibilities began forming. I began working with
Japanese masks and attending performances of Butoh, Japanese
avant-garde theatre.

Since my return to the US in 1994, I have continued to expand on
these influences and explore the possibilities between the male nude,
masks, architectural space, and the boundaries of shadow and light.
I also photograph architecture and industrial sites as I continue to
explore the human environment and its impact on nature.
