TOKYO

These images are in response to living in Tokyo from 1991
to 1994. I do not intend to reproduce the fantasy images held
by many familiar with Japan; samurai, castles, garden parks,
and chrysanthemums. The Japan I found is modern, crowded,
busy, stressful and vibrant. It is full of people forever moving,
seeking work, entertainment, satisfaction and solace.

This work is a personal response reflecting the Tokyo I lived in
and observed. I hope these images provide a more nuanced
view of Tokyo and Japan, beyond the stereotypical images
popularized by our media and entertainment industries and
the Japanese themselves.
